Broken Wings (LW, walker)
SPEED: 2
WEAPON: 6 (3 each for lifter and axe)
TORQUE: 7
ARMOUR: 11
DESCRIPTION: Broken Wings uses a walking system adapted from the antweight Type 0 - each side has a gear train run from an NPC-02446 motor that uses smaller gears to make four larger gears all rotate in the same direction, the four legs per side are connected to these larger gears eccentrically and are anchored at the top so the robot walks with comparatively little imbalance, and has tank type steering by reversing one side to turn on the spot. Power comes from 24v NiMh battery packs and 4QD controllers. The inner frame and base are entirely 2014 aluminium and the outer armour consists of a composite of multiple layers of carbon fibre, kevlar, titanium sheet and aluminium mesh and is rated as quite bulletproof - it's similar stuff to what was used on armoured personnel carriers in the early 90s - and is shock mounted to the inner frame with extra 2014 aluminium side and rear skirts and a sprung spring steel front wedge extender to get underneath opponents. The main weapons are the front full width pneumatic lifter in the wedge and the pneumatic axe on the top of the machine, designed to work together to clamp an opponent rather than do extended damage on their own, and are run from a Sodastream CO2 cylinder with three 10 bar 40mm bore rams (two on the lifter, one for the axe). The axe is capable of self righting the robot if it's retracted, and the lifter is capable of self righting it if the axe is fired.
Octavius (Middleweight)
SPEED: 7
WEAPON: 6 (flipper power)/2 (thwackbot translation speed)
TORQUE: 3
ARMOUR: 4
DESCRIPTION: Octavius runs on two S28-400 Magmotors at 24v from NiMh battery packs, driving two wheels set well in from the sides of the machine to allow it to spin and turn faster. Built around a stainless steel frame with polypropylene and titanium laminate shock mounted armour panels and some extra stainless steel on the flipper face, the main active weapon is the front pneumatic flipper, consisting of the front and top panels, running on 16 bar CO2 from dual 50mm diameter rams and a block of three paintball cylinders that give it about 40ish uses of the weapon on a full charge. This is able to self right it if it gets flipped as well as toss a few other machines around, and the machine has a secondary attack method as well - it spins round on its wheels and uses custom 'melty brain' control electronics (not a Y drive but same idea more or less) to translate while spinning, turning it into a giant mobile spinning disc with the two hardened steel blades on the sides.
Stiltskin (Heavyweight)
SPEED: 4
WEAPON: 7
TORQUE: 6
ARMOUR: 5
DESCRIPTION: A classic and reliable wedge flipper design with a few mods - the main drive of the robot is from tracks constructed from hardened aluminium conveyor chain laid out similarly to Kater Killer inside the body, with a layer of Vulkalon bonded to every other link to provide good grip and pushing ability, driven from two LEM130 Lynch motors running on 24v NiMh battery packs. The weapon of Stiltskin is a full length rear hinged pneumatic flipper run on full pressure (2400psi) nitrogen through a single 120mm bore nonattached (Gravity style) ram with a 3 litre buffertank and 2kg main tank giving quite a few (10-20) uses of the weapon. (that little wheelie bar at the back prevents it throwing itself over if it flips with nothing on the wedge). It goes without saying that the weapon self rights it.
The armour of the robot is the most intriguing part as all the components excluding the pneumatic tanks and ram are housed inside a 3.25mm Hardox protected compartment set well inside the main armour, welded to two 5mm Hardox plates per side that support/protect the track drive and idler sprockets and runners. These help shape the rest of the body and outer armour, which is constructed from 7mm polycarbonate mounted on rubber shock absorbing pads with a titanium frame and sprung down blade on the flipper to give it strength and a zero front ground clearance, and the large gap between the polycarb and the actual innards and mechanics of the robot should hopefully allow it to take lots of damage and keep going. Basically an ARCised version of my FRA heavyweight of the same name.
Drive (Superheavyweight)
SPEED: 6
WEAPON: N/A
TORQUE: 9
ARMOUR: 7
DESCRIPTION: Just 9cm high and invertible, made of a titanium semi-monocoque chassis with titanium side and rear skirts, Hardox top and base shock mounted panels and a spring hinged front Hardox wedge with twin hardened steel spikes either side. Not much to the robot really, just a pure pusher making use of two S28-400 Magmotors per wheel - a total of 8 on four wheel drive with the drive wheels having Vulkalon tyres for more grip, and positioned at the back and middle of the robot with casters being used at the front to give good turning ability.
