Yep. He's finally making a vapourbot. And possibly more. So until he gets approved on FRA and can post in HCII, or until Martijn gives him his own section (since I can't now ), this is Nav's thread for bots. Post away!

Apparently I'm now an expert (thanks, Kody...I guess), so here comes my view on these stats: Shape: Like Marti says, precisely what sort of wedge is it? A long narrow wedge? A wide wedge with a rounded back? A short wide wedge with sloped sides? A wedge with a bit of a box bit at the top and a reverse wedge at the back? A red wedge? Armour: 7mm titanium will weigh around 40kg for a whole robot, I'd say it would just about scrape in under the weight but possibly look at reducing it if it does end up overweight. Power: Just put '6 24v NiCad battlepacks, run in series/parallel to get three lots of 48v' or similar, that would work. Ground clearance: Needs to be lower at the front you can safely run 0 at the front, for a flipper it's probably best to do that. Weaponry: Two things need stating with flippers, other than gas type and capacity; operating pressure and ram sizes. -Pressure: The maximum allowed by most tournies is 1000psi, CO2 goes up to about 800psi and then liquefies but Nitrogen can go up to the full 1000psi. Flippers are generally divided into 'low pressure' (between 10 and 16 bar [150-250psi]), which gives you lots of lower powered flips (examples: M2, Hassocks Hog, Facet, S7 Ripper) and 'high pressure' (between 750-1000psi) which gives you a few brilliant flips (examples: Chaos 2, Gravity, Atomic). -Ram sizes: I don't have any experience of these but as a rule 60-80mm is adequate for using low pressure, while high pressure mega flippers go above 100mm. How many rams and what sort you're using is also an issue, look at some of the robots MArti recommended (and a blatant plug or two can't hurt: strickenone.proboards99.com/index.cgi?board=chevhw&action=display&thread=164 and strickenone.proboards99.com/index.cgi?board=chevhw&action=display&thread=157 for high pressure, strickenone.proboards99.com/index.cgi?board=chevhw&action=display&thread=161 for low pressure ) and steal...uh....borrow aspects of their designs and incorporate them into yours. Not a bad first effort though, if you like we can talk on MSN about more vapourbot things (just don't get me started on tracks)
