Boxed In
Weight – 100kg dead.
Dimensions – L- 80cm, W-60cm, H-32cm
Speed – 15.1mph
Shape – Literally A Box with skirts side and back.
Ground Clearance – Minimal under the skirts, around 4mm at the front.
Turning Circle – 0
Armour- 6mm titanium all over, coming to a total of 24.3 kg. The skirts take up an extra 6kg and are made from 5mm titanium.
Power- 4 x LEM 200’s running at 24V and at a gearing of 3:1. It has a phenomenal acceleration, and is hitting with around 10.8BHp. It’s designed essentially to be Tornado with more speed and better armour, as well as more protection form flippers. The motors themselves do weigh 42kg. And the batteries, 12 x 2480mAh, Apogee Lithium Polymer Batteries, run in series to produce 24V, weigh just 1.86 kg.
Locomotion- We’re using treads form old wet go-karts mounted on aluminium hubs from a mini wheelbarrow. Each of these should weigh around 2kg each, as we’ve drilled holes in the aluminium to reduce weight and have shaved a layer of rubber form the tyres.
Removable Link- The removable link is positioned under the rear skirt. When stopped it should provide for easy access by hand, but not to robots in battle unless the machine is turned over.
Weapons – A single, 1kg titanium spike, with an aluminium boron carbide tip. The point itself is as thin as we could make it at around 0.075cm, and using the rule of Power = Force/Area means that we have a force of around 11 tonnes at the very very tip when we run in at full speed and with the full area of the spike tip. The spike itself is around 2cm wide, and therefore at the end of the tip it’s far less and only around 0.6 tonnes, however we should still be bale to get the tip through and cause some damage.
