Eye of Ran
active from June 2008 to March 2009
active from June 2008 to March 2009
WEIGHT: 100kgs
DIMENSIONS: 95 x 70 x 26 cm (minus weapon)
SHAPE: A T shape, with the front end being the thin section of the T, which has the weapon mounted at the end. The rear horizontal section is about half of the robot's overall length, and has a wedge at the back. The underside armour is slanted upwards, so the body is thinner at the front end than at the rear.
COLOUR: Dark blue, with green leafy decorations, gold and green eye on top, name written in ruby red on the rear wedge
DRIVE: 2 S28-400 Magmotors run at 24v from 4 NiCad packs, driving two aluminium wheels with rubber belts for grip at the back of the robot.
SPEED: 10mph average, 16mph max
GROUND CLEARANCE: 0 at the back due to the wedge, 0 up to 80mm at the sides, and a good area of the sides and the front is protected by the blade, so while you could quite easily flip it from there, try getting in underneath
ARMOUR: Top and rear wedge is a single welded sheet of 5mm Hardox, thickness up to 8mm in key areas. The sides and underside armour are 8mm polycarbonate with 3mm grade 5 titanium behind it in areas, and to save weight there is no real chassis; instead all components are mounted to the underside of the top, with rubber between them to slow down any axe type things, and the side and bottom polycarb panels are chemically welded together. To protect it, the weapon drive train (engine, axle, etc.) is mounted in a Hardox frame with polycarb panels.
WEAPONS: A 20 kilogram 80cm long front Hardox bar/blade, which is sharpened and shaped into a hook at the ends to dig in and rip away opponents, with sections cut out to save weight as well as concentrate weight on the outside. This is driven by a redundant chain drive from a 121.6cc 8.6hp Stihl chainsaw engine fitted with an onboard starter to a maximum speed of 4000rpm, but is generally kept at 1500-2000rpm unless stated to minimise self-destruction, getting up to top speed in six seconds but powerful enough to throw in three. It should deliver an approximate maximum of 100kj, and mounted 7mm off the ground (with a ball castor in the centre of the bar itself keeping it from hitting the floor) it could seriously damage wheels, skirts, and flippers - I don't want to think about what happens if you have external tracks.
SRIMECH: Invertible. The side armour is angled somewhat to prevent it resting there.
NOTES: Components are rubber mounted (as mentioned) to minimise shock from its own and others' weapon hits. All the components (excet the weapon and its drive chains) are located in the rear box/wedge section, which helps
STRENGTHS: Decent armour, good pushing power, large area of attack
WEAKNESSES: Not the fastest, Newtonian physics
Joey's notes: None yet - check back soon!
